For many game users, we all know the Xbox One game console which does the perfect work on the game videos, especially the Xbox One S and Xbox One X which can support the the 4K game videos. For many old Xbox One users, do you have met the following same trouble with me? I can’t play the HEVC video on Xbox One smoothly.

Trouble:

I have been using my Xbox One S to play this video files with this codec for the last couple of months without a single issue.Since the system has been unable to play HEVC x265 video files. I noticed it in VLC (my default video app) and then tried it in Media Player and the native TV/Movies app, via the file directory app. I usually play files off a USB drive, I have also tried copying them to the internal drive, with the same result.

When I try to play an HEVC file the system shuts down immediately (70% of the time), just makes the chime and is off within 1-2 seconds of executing the launch command. On other occasions (30%), usually through the Media Player app, I just get a solid green screen, with the audio playing in the background. It presents like a hardware utilization issue, with the system shutting down suddenly but I can’t imagine the GPU and CPU are taxed more by decoding x265 than rendering many graphics intensive games.

Why HEVC Files Won’t Play on Xbox One ?

You know this: The Xbox One is the only console to support playback, although support for HEVC was added through a software update, presumably utilizing software decoding. 10-bit HD High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC) platform support added. 10-bit HD HEVC enables video streaming apps, like NetFlix, to use lower bandwidth to deliver HD quality video streams. 10-bit Ultra color increases the video color precision from 8-bits to 10-bits – with 8-bits you only get 16 million colors, but with 10-bit Ultra color precision you get 1 billion life-like colors that makes your video more vibrant.
